Supportive Parents

The altView Foundation works with LGBTQ2S+ youth in schools, facilitates staff training and PD days, conducts health class presentations, and supports the great work of Gay Straight Alliances in those schools. Through that work, we realized a very important group of people who were lacking for supports: parents and families. Youth supports are growing across the province but parents and families have often been overlooked.

The altView Foundation believes that parents and families are crucial to the support of LGBTQ2S+ youth. The support of loved ones can often mean the difference between life and death for many youth LGBTQ2S+ people. But there is a journey toward that acceptance and support, and many families don’t know how or where to start. If you are in this position, know that you’re not alone. There is a collective wisdom when it comes to raising children, a wealth of knowledge and experiences out there for any number of struggles that parents and families can face. But when it comes to raising an LGBTQ2S+ child and navigating those unique challenges, there are gaps in that collective wisdom.

Supportive Parents is envisioned to be a resource to help fill those gaps. It will host peer-to-peer articles, surveys, blogs, resources, and so much more. If you have specific concerns or feedback on our page, please reach out via our contact page.
